safefood partners with Libraries Ireland
safefood in partnership with Libraries Ireland are bringing parenting experts together to help those who are struggling to be healthier.
03 February 2023: With almost one in three (30%) parents¹ saying it is difficult to be healthy as a family, safefood in partnership with public libraries are hosting free talks for parents with leading health experts on how to make a start on healthy positive family changes. This month’s event takes place in Tallaght Library next Tuesday 7 February from 7pm and will feature a live studio audience of parents. The event will also be broadcast live via Zoom and in selected local libraries around the country.
The event is part of the START’ campaign from safefood, the HSE and Healthy Ireland which is all about helping parents and families make small changes on the way to a healthier life. Hosted by broadcaster Suzanne Kane, the event will feature leading Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist Dr Colman Noctor and safefood ’s head of Nutrition Dr Aileen McGloin.
Libraries have also told us anecdotally that the parents who visit them are eager for help in this area. In response to this need we are hosting this free event series as part of the Healthy Ireland at Your Library initiative. It’s a way for parents to ask questions and get advice directly from the experts.”
Commenting, Dr Gary Kearney, Interim CEO, safefood said “It’s great to be able to bring our START campaign into the heart of local communities through this partnership with public libraries. The lives and experiences of parents have been central to our campaign with our research telling us that parents are struggling to be healthier. Libraries have also told us anecdotally that the parents who visit them are eager for help in this area. In response to this need we are hosting this free event series as part of the Healthy Ireland at Your Library initiative. It’s a way for parents to ask questions and get advice directly from the experts. This could be everything from how to set realistic goals, how to deal with pushback in the family, and how to stick with changes.”
Catherine Elliott, Chair of the Libraries Development Strategic Programmes Committee added: “Public Libraries across Ireland are happy to partner with safefood and help support parents to encourage healthy eating habits. The Healthy Ireland at Your Library service encourages people to 'Eat Well, Think Well, Be Well' and the safefood event fits in well with this initiative. Tallaght Library is delighted to host the live event and we look forward to the live streaming of the event to participating libraries. Anybody who would like more information on health and wellbeing, can visit their local library or access the Healthy Ireland book collection online.”
Parents can register to attend the event in person* by visiting www.safefood.net/events where they can also sign up for the event webinar. Online guests will also have the opportunity to ask the experts questions during the event using the online chat feature.
