The first step is to check your BMI to see if the programme is suited to you:

Information

BMI is short for body mass index. It is a measure that uses a person’s height and weight to work out if their weight is healthy. The BMI calculation divides an adult’s weight in kilograms or pounds by their height in metres or feet squared.

How to measure your waist

Find your waist

  • With your finger, feel the bottom of your ribs and the top of your hipbones; your waist lays between these 2 points, normally where the bellybutton is.

Measure your waist

  • Wrap the measuring tape around your bare skin or a light t-shirt.
  • Make sure the tape is snug, but does not compress your skin.
  • Relax, exhale and measure your waist.

What you need to know about healthy weight loss

The first step to healthy weight loss is finding out whether you are carrying extra weight by calculating your BMI.

BMI is short for body mass index and uses a person’s height and weight to work out if their weight is healthy. Your BMI is calculated by dividing your weight by your height squared.

Having a BMI in the overweight or obese category puts you at an increased risk of health problems, like heart disease and diabetes. If your BMI is between 25 and 30, this programme can support you to lose weight safely.

The programme helps you lose between 5 to 10% of your current body weight; losing this amount has lots of health benefits. The plan supports gradual healthy weight loss, aiming to lose 0.5kg/1lb per week by following the healthy meal plans.
